Performing history:
An Evaluation of a Music-Based
American History Curriculum

With all the attention paid to raising reading and mathmatic scores, some have
barely noticed that we have standerds in other areas too. History, for example, is a part
of state content standards in California , but history has not been the subject of many reform
efforts in recent years.
The purpose of this report is to describe an evaluation reserch project carried out to
assess the impact of a unique curriculum for teaching American history, one based on the
performance of musicals
~performance broken down by feeder school on the four Stanford 9 subtests and on the history test
